Hide Terms
Welcome to the primary privacy policy and terms and conditions page of Everything Notebook.
Note that we use a GDPR/CCPA plugin on this website that automatically generates many cookie policies. If the cookies on our website change, it keeps those updated automatically, so we’ve linked to those individual privacy pages below should you want to access them.
That being said, the language can be a bit…”legalese.” In particular, we sort of dislike the words, about “selling your information.”
Please note that this often refers to using things like analytics and ads that collect some browsing/user data via third parties like Google, Facebook, etc. We do NOT sell our email list! The only time that we will transfer our email list is if we ever sell this website. In that case, we’ll notify subscribers before the transfer of the website.
Please read on for the rest of our privacy policy
Who “we” are
Our website address is: https://www.everythingnotebook.com. This website is owned and run bya sole-proprietor in Washington State and “here”we” are here because we like to blog, primarily.
Automatically generated privacy pages
The pages below are automatically generated by the privacy plugin I use and are updated as I add or remove various services.
Plugins and third party services we use on this website
Membership
We use a plugin for membership (Ultimate Member), with which you can register a user account, submit posts, and interact with others. You can find out more about the registration terms under terms and conditions below.
In your profile, there’s a help field to understand what information is available publicly and which is not. You can choose whether to share your profile in the member directory, to keep it out of the directory, or make it private if you are a member. If you are a “reviewer” – that is, if you write posts, you may not make your profile private as it also serves as you author page. However, you can still choose to make many fields private only to you and admin.
Members can delete their own accounts and data from their accounts page. Reviewers, Partners, and Editors cannot delete their own data as their profiles also serve as an author page for articles they have written. If post authors truly want to delete their content, they must contact us to request it.
Google Services
We use various Google services on our website, which are listed in this section.
You can click here t o view Google’s privacy and terms for partner sites.
Google Analytics and Ads
We use Google Analytics on this website to understand how many visitors come to our website, which pages they are using, and how our website is used.
We also may, in the future, use Google Adsense to serve contextualized ads and personalized ads, as we have done so on other websites.
Both services use user behavior and browsing data to collect information and to serve ads.
Our GDPR plugin, in countries that have opt-in privacy laws, is set up to block any personalized ads before opt-in as well as blocking analytics prior to opt in.
YouTube
We may use YouTube videos on our site. When we do, some information may be collected by Google. YouTube is subject to the same Google privacy policy we’ve linked to above.
Google ReCaptcha
We use Google ReCaptcha v2 on our website, which is the little checkbox before you submit a form that has you complete a challenge. This is to reduce the spam that we receive. Google ReCaptcha may collect some information from visitors like:
IP address
Resources loaded, including styles or images
User Google account information
Behavior, like scrolling on a page, moving the mouse, clicking on links, time spent completing forms, and typing patterns
Browser history
CSS information
Browser plug-ins
Cookies
Akismet
We also use Akismet to prevent spam, particularly in comments, but it may also be used to prevent spam newsletter subscriptions or forum posts.
You can click here to read Akismet’s privacy policy.
Newsletter
We use the Newsletter plugin for WordPress to administer our email newsletters and updates. Aside from name, email, and preferences that subscribers share with us by entering information in the forms, we also collect IP/geographic information in case we need to target newsletters by region.
Subscribers may unsubscribe from newsletters at any time by following a link in a newsletter. However, we retain subscriber data for a year after unsubscription in case a subscriber wants to sign back up. If you would like us to delete your data before that you can contact us to request it.
Advanced Ads
We use the Advanced Ads plugin for WordPress. We may use geolocation information in this plugin to serve ads based on location. Otherwise we use it to serve both Google ads (likely in the future, see above) and some non-personalized ads and information boxes on our website.
Amazon Associates and other affiliate programs
Everything Notebook participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com.
As we review things on this website, we do join affiliate programs, when they are available, to link to product pages from our reviews.
When a visitor clicks a link that is an affiliate link and makes a subsequent purchase we may receive a small commission that helps offset the costs of running this website.
If we have reviews written by guest authors, they may, in some cases, use their own affiliate links in their posts and in some cases, we may share some proceeds from post revenue with post authors.
Terms & Conditions
If you have a question about terms and conditions, please ask it via the question forum on the frequently asked questions or forums page.
Guest Post Submission Terms & Conditions
We do accept (some) guest posts on this website.
If you submit guest posts to this website, you are agreeing to the following terms:
You certify that you wrote this piece of content, and that the content is original. OR if the content was previously published elsewhere, you own the content and have included, in the post body, the content’s original source via URL along with which instance of the post should be the canonical URL. Likewise, if you use an image that is not your own, you must have the rights to use the image. Please cite the image’s source if it is not your own image or graphic.
You are stating that this post was not AI-generated and your image is of the item and not an AI-generated image. The only AI-generated featured images that are potentially acceptable are if you are writing a post that is NOT a review (though the topic should still reflect the theme of choosing products, selecting items, etc — things like “what to watch out for when you’re choosing a laser cutter,” as an example) and the generated image reflects the theme of the post.
We may consider accepting your sponsored post, depending on the content, writing style. We will always disclose sponsored posts as sponsored and will add rel=”sponsored” to its links. We realize that we’re a young website but we are not interested in publishing sponsored posts for a pittance.
We do not charge for guest posts unless we deem the post to be a sponsored post — for example, a sponsored post would be a post by the company that makes the item.
We do not pay outright for guest posts. We may consider a revenue share scenario in the future, but while we get started we have that on hold as this is primarily MY blog.
We’ll follow the above with a bit about affiliate links in posts. You may add your own affiliate link to a product in your review. Such links will have the rel=”sponsored” tag attached to them. If you are a partner author, we will replace your affiliate links with ours and in the case where we can link to an item in your post with an affiliate link we will do so.
Ads may (and likely will be) shown in your content unless yours is a paid sponsored post.
We do not allow “dofollow” links to affiliate products in posts. We may allow dofollow links to offsite references that are necessary to the article. This is entirely at our discretion. The one link that is currently dofollow is the website URL link in your profile.
We have automated emails set up to be sent out on post submission and when a post is published, scheduled, or rejected. We cannot, in an automated email, disclose why we rejected a particular post, but usually it is for one of the following reasons:
The post required too much editing, on our part, in terms of grammar, spelling, or punctuation.
The post was not written in English. We do not have strong enough language skills in other languages to proofread and edit non-English-language posts.
The content was misleading, hateful, discriminatory, or sent up some other sort of red flag for us.
The content was flagged as plagarism in our checker.
We reserve the right to decline to publish any content that is submitted to us without stating a reason.
You will allow comments on your post. You also will try to follow up on reader questions in the comments for your post.
Users who constantly submit spam or posts that we cannot use due to their subject matter may have their capability for submitting posts blocked in the future by changing their member status.
Please allow ample time for us to review your post. Please do not keep emailing or messaging about submitted posts. If you have not heard back in a few weeks, one way or another, then you may check in. Please allow emails from hello@everythingnotebook.com so they don’t go to your spam box.
You can submit posts on this page . Please do not send emails consisting of post pitches or lists of suggested topics; they will be disregarded. If you have a specific question, visit the FAQ forums and ask or see if the question has already been answered.
To submit posts, you MUST register as a “member” and must complete your profile with a few simple items. Members can access the post submission form. Once you have 1) submitted a post and 2) filled out the few necessary items for profile completeness (filled in a short bio, uploaded a user avatar, filled in your name and nickname that will be your display name on the site) we will update your profile to “Reviewer” if it’s a post we can publish. Note, as described below, that reviewers cannot make their profile private as it serves as your author page.
Photos and Graphics Submissions Terms and Conditions
You may find various places that you can upload photos or graphics on this website, these are the terms for each:
Profile Albums
I may, at some point, add a “photos” capability feature to profiles. If we do this, you may change the privacy settings within your album from your account page or delete your photos or account there as well. Such albums will be also usable, at request, if you write a post here — I can insert the album for you. We will not show your albums without permission, but may contact you if, for some reason, I want to request to showcase your gallery in a page or post.
Images are still subject to website TOS and I do not allow NSFW images as it’s a can of worms I don’t want to get into.
User Avatar and Cover Photo
When you upload a profile image (avatar) and cover photo, those are shown publicly on your profile, unless you have a private profile. Your avatar will also be shown across the site if you participate in forums or submit guest posts. You can delete both in your account.
User Uploads to Galleries
On “gallery” type posts, you may find that there’s an uploads box if you’re logged in. Users may upload suitable images to such galleries. Most of the galleries on this website have a free downloads button with a popup that allows the user to make a Buy Me a Coffee button and asks for attribution.
If you upload images to such galleries, your image will also have this. If I ever start a revenue sharing program in the future, images would be included in this if I can tell the source. Currently, I have no such program in place.
Such galleries do not, by default, have an “author” field. I know who uploaded the photo — but to include your name and link on the image, you should enter your name “by _____” in the description field and any custom link in the “custom link” field when you upload an image. That will appear in the lightbox so users can know who created the image.
If you are uploading an AI image, please also state, in the description field, that it was AI-generated and, if possible, state the generator that you used and what your prompt was.
Images in Guest Posts
When you upload an image when you’re submitting a guest post, you are allowing use of that image for the life of the post. Please ensure that you have the right to use it and use the appropriate attribution according to the photo’s license terms if it’s not your own.
Images in guest posts are considered “all rights reserved,” but you know how the Internet is; people sometimes save images, anyway. We won’t put such images into galleries, or elsewhere, without your permission, but we might share them to social media if we post your guest post to social channels when it’s published.
Registration Terms and Conditions
Users may register for an account and must opt in via a second email. They can update their profiles with information, which is helpful for post authors as it also serves as an author page. Users can make their profiles private or delete their accounts via the account menu. Privacy for various profile areas can be viewed from the help icon for each item and for most items privacy level can be changed. We ask that post authors enter a name and bio and keep that public as well as requiring that they keep their profile public as it serves as an author page.
We may ban users or delete accounts for any reason, and will do so for repeated spamming, flaming, and other misuse of forums.
User Roles
When you register an account, you get registered in the “member” user role. With this role, you can choose whether or not to show your profile in the directory, to make your profile private, and you may delete your account on your account page, along with its personal data. Members may participate in forums, and may access the post submission form. They may add notes to their profile and bookmark pages to save it for later in their profile. We may downgrade members who violate terms on service — in forums, for instance, to the “subscriber” role which does not have these priviledges. Members who have submitted posts may be upgraded to the “Reviewer” role. Reviewers (and Partners) may not make their profiles private as your profile serves as an author page.
All registered users may review admins, reviewers, and partners.
Registered users are also allowed to follow users to get notified when they post new content or activity.
Private Messaging
We have private messaging turned on, currently, ONLY to and from admin. This enables us to more easily communicate with post authors but we feel that, as private messaging can be abused we’d rather not deal with it for all users. We may reconsider this for some roles in the future, if it warrants. We’ll send out notifications to users if this happens.
Forums Rules
Forums rules can be found on the forums page. Basically, they are “be respectful,” “two warnings,” and, “we can delete posts that violate the terms.”
Use of content on this website
Unless otherwise noted, content on this website is “all rights reserved.” I do have some places you can download items. Most are available for visitors to download. However, many to most will have a popup allowing, if you choose, to make a donation on my buy me a coffee page. I really appreciate it because making various files and making websites takes a lot of work, actually , but I don’t like running a shop but don’t want these files to just sit around on my computer. And it takes money to run websites.
If you find a file that is downloadable, here are the terms of use:
Photos: please attribute and link back to the photo. The URL in your browser when the lightbox is open will link directly to that photo in the lightbox.
AI images: I’d appreciate it if you link back, but please to not cite me as an “artist.” My husband says when you use AI, you’re creating images from your imagination and, well, yes. I find it fun and helpful for things like creating characters or creating featured images for blog posts. But I think that being an “artist” presupposes some type of other skill. Perhaps if I actually edit the AI as I do with my photos… AI images, of course, are “trained” from other images. You download and use such images with that awareness and agree to hold me harmless from any supposed claim.
Public domain images: such images are in the public domain, of course, either having been originally published as such or having their copyright run out. If I publish any galleries of public domain images, those images, of course, are free to use — but it’s always nice to get a BMAC thank you.
Craft files and SVGs: Again, please attribute or consider buying me a coffee. As I’ll say on each post, my files are of varying quality. Some are very good (I think), some you might want to build on:) Note that most of these crafts I am no longer doing, but I want a “home” so at least someone may get some use out of my files. I used to have an Etsy shop. If you purchased one of the files I may put up here for free, now, I am not offering refunds. Generally, these files cost less than a “BMAC” donation, anyway.
